Jonathan:

Check out the following items:

1) transmission fluid level
2) wiring to the O/D solenoid and the O/D switches (an the relay)
3) gear selector switch adjustment

In regards to the the third, I converted a transmission to O/D
years ago and I installed two switches in the transmission cover.
I shimmed the switches with a few washers to set the amount of
switch activation and the unit worked fine for a few years.  However,
after a while the O/D started dropping in and out, like yours.  It
turned out that the switch was just barely made and removing one
washer fixed the problem.  It has worked fine ever since.
