Hi Chris:

One of the cars which he did probably saved the parent company of Rover in
England.  As you may know, BMW owns Rover.  In 1959 the company was in bad
shape financially.  Both the motorcycle and car divisions were failing and
receivership was looming.  Michelotti designed a small car to replace the
BMW Isetta which was no longer in favour in a new economically-recovered
Germany.

The result was the BMW 700 which was an attractive coupe using a modified
BMW flat twin motorcycle engine and a rear wheel drive setup.  The car
became the BMW 1500 which led finally to the 2002.  BMW never looked back
after this.
