OK, here's a grandiose suggestion:
I was following jonmac & co's thread about the availability of parts for
Triumphs (and other cars) and the ways that they are shared from model to
model and marque to marque.
How about this: a database of parts, including:
Donor car
"patient" <?> car
description of part, and original part no. if applicable
supplier of part (and number), if applicable (ie. Moss p/n?)
A web-based search engine could be used to filter out things that each
induvidual user would want... and a web-based form could facilitate
expansion of the database.
I might fire up Access and see if I can get a small structure working--
Access is programmable and easily ported to other platforms.
I haven't a clue if this project is feasible, or if it will move beyond
"idea in head" stage. Obviously a considerable amount of bandwidth will
be required simply to store all the data! ...and I'm not keen on
banners or advertisements et. al, and as it would be "better" to have all
applicable suppliers, rather than just one, I don't think the support of
any one supplier (TRF, Moss, VB, Rimmer, etc) can be guarunteed or even
expected.
