I'm new to the list so I hope this message gets posted properly.....

Need to replace a leaky rear axle oil seal. I was able to remove the
inner shaft with the driving flange, oil seal housing, and bearing
attached. However, I'm unable to get the assembly apart after removing
the end nut. The inner shaft is tapered and the flange is keyed to the
shaft. Tried using a wheel puller to separate, even applied heat. No
movement at all. Questions:

- Is it normal for this assembly to be so tight on the shaft?
- Any suggestions on how to get apart?
- Do I need to separate the parts using a press?
- Once apart is it relatively easy to replace the seal?
- When re-assembling, will all the parts need to be pressed together?

I AM NOT A MECHANIC! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Slammer
