Burning down the garage not sounding too bad as I'm afraid I'm facing major
problems with both the SUs and Zeniths... they have alot (guessing 150,000 on
Zs and 250,000 on SUs) and could be at what you called 'doner parts' stage. I
will more closely scrutinize measurements on moving parts and look for a cheap
copy of Haynes SUs and Z book. I've suspected major worn parts for a long time
and at this point it might be smarter to just buy reconditioned ones for
approx. $100 each. Question: does the butterfly shaft wear occur mostly on the
shaft or significantly in the shaft bore too (maybe I could get away with just
replacing shafts for a substantial improvement at low cost).
Will yank the Volvo SUs for closer inspection next few days - can't bear to
take TR4 - 'Z's out yet as you know...it's summertime!.
