I have described the problem I have had with my tach reading about 50% high
a couple times. While up in the mountains driving around last week it went
nuts and pinned itself all the way around. I disconnected it. Today I took
the tach completely apart and the magnet assy would move back and forth
hitting the pan. I pressed the magnet back in place and now it works fine.
Its correct and very stable in its readings.

I think the culprit was replacement cables that are slightly too long and
gradually pressed the magnet loose. I have described the process and put
some pictures on my web page.
