Ray,
your brakes are probably adjusted too tight, and the thump is probably a U
joint. this winter I replaced all the U joints in the half shafts and drive
shaft. (not hard to do when your replacing the diff.). Having owned the car
for almost 20 years and never having replace the U's before it was an
excellent opportunity. Just hope it's not the axle bearing, finding a
Churchill tool is like trying to make sense out of owning a LBC. It can't
be done easily and when you find it the cost is almost prohibitive. I might
suggest replacing the bushings on the trailing arms at the same time.
