I think I know the answer unless I have missed the whole point of your
question.

NOS stands for New Old Stock... and refers to replacement parts that are as
old as our cars that come from dealer stock.  These are great for certain
things that require original and don't deteriorate in storage.  Rubber parts
would be a problem.

The numbering scheme is the one used in the TR Parts catalog.
