I did a bit of checking last night on radios.  Seems that there were actually 
three.  Smiths made the early ones, Bendix made the ones used right after 
Smiths, but then it seems tha Motorola bought the Bendix design (or more likely 
bought that division of Bendix) since the Motorola units look exactly like 
Bendix units.  in fact, the Motorola radios use Bendix audio output 
transistors.  Now don't ask me to split this up into commission numbers!  My 
guess is that if you have a 61 or early 62 TR4 you should have a Smiths, mid 62 
to mid 63 looks like Bendix, and anything beyond that should be Motorola.  
Now...would a good judge check this?  Who knows.  I'll have to write this one 
into the manual...
