Don't apologize!  You are very helpful.  I don't think the wiring was too
messef up since it indeed ran at 2 speeds.  For all I know the wires
or connections are high resistance.  I will pull the motor wires from
the harness and see what I can about what the switch does with these wires.

I suspect two possibilities.  One is it grounds one / both wires.
Another is grounds one wire / connects the two wires...

Hopefully I will be able to tell from testing the wires.

If that fails, I will have to try to figure it out from the motor itself,
even to the point of applying power and then grounding one / both wires!
If I do it momentarily, I ought not to fry anything too badly, right???

Wil let you know what I find.
