All I've ever done when changing to DOT 5, which I've been doing for
over 10 years, is to flush the sysem at each corner, starting from the
furthest point from the mastercylinder, until I get clean, purple fluid
in the jar. I have never, repeat never, had any problems with the
braking systems on any of these cars. None.No leaks, no corrosion, no
damaged paint, no damaged seals, no damaged hoses. I submit that if a
damaged component is observed subsequent to a change to DOT 5, it was
probably well on its way before the change was made and would have
failed anyway. Flushing, as I've described, doesn't entirely rid the
system of the original hygroscopic junk so some ongoing deterioration
might be expected. Given the choice I'd rebuild the entire system before
going to DOT 5; but flushing has worked out too, at least in my
experience.

JMHO,

Ed Woods
