Hi, John,

What to look for in a marque magazine? Well, for me, it's mostly some
work :)

Seriously, a magazine's content has to reflect what the reader wants.
Certain 'Classic' magazines just can't get it right, wavering between
too much content and not enough detail or an approach which is plain
unprofessional.

I like to see a broad spectrum of coverage but one with some depth. It's
no good covering just prototypes and just mint examples of cars. I like
to see a mix of get down and dirty, hands on, technical articles,
'living with a....' articles and stories from real people.

Some well-researched historical matter is worth having, as are
motorsport tales. Naturally, owners of older cars need to know about
'technical' items which are relevant-the unleaded fuel business, car
security, etc.

Two final points, I've always found that a realistic approach works-very
few cars need evoke the awestruck response of some contributors. Taking
the cars less seriously makes them more accessible to the readership.
Also, in tech. circles, Q&A pages work very well indeed-provided the
answers are correct.

All the best,

Dave Hill
