Greetings;
My name is Peter and I'm 41.
I was born and raised in Mason City, Ia...THE "River City" from the
musical "The Music Man" , and I've been trying to get that song "76
Trombones" out of my head for years. After several years of avoiding
the real world by hanging out at a major university, I realized that
life was just too durned easy, so I packed up 2 suitcases and moved to New
York City. I am not married nor do I have any children, and my family is
somewhat relieved, because they have had serious doubts about my mental
stability ever since I decided to move east.
I managed to stumble through graduate school and get an MFA in painting,
which basically entitles me to sit around in smoky cafe's
and discuss the meaning of life with other so-called intellectuals, and to
dress like a slob in paint stained clothes all the time. It has
not been particularly helpful in assisting me in obtaining that great, high
paying job though. I currently work as an administrative cook and bottle
washer for the City University system.
For the last several years I've been playing the NYC club scene with a
band, and we have just finished our first CD. Unfortunately the recording
schedule made me drop plans to attend the Maine VTR.
At some point a few years ago I realized I wasn't poor enough, even
though I was spending an obscenely large amout of money on rent and
have an addiction to cool old guitars (I have 13). On a trip back to IA I
spotted a 63 TR4 (ct26575) at a collector car dealer, and pulled the
trigger. I had little or no auto experience, the car had to stay in Iowa for
what turned out to be 3 years, and it was not exactly the ideal car for
someone who lived in the middle of Manhattan.....but what the hell, life is
short. Fortunately I was able to store the car
and escape back to NYC, as my family was hell bent on committing me by this
time.
In 1997 I drove the car with my lead singer from IA to CT, where my
car now lives at my sister's house. The lead singer subsequently wrote
a song called "Little Red Car", which expresses his desire for one of those
cool britmobiles.
I have only owned 3 or four cars, and went 10 years without owning
one at all. The TR4 is my only car, and I sort of like it that way.
