Rod, you know, it is not all that hard to rebuild your own
transmission.  You do NOT need the special tools, though they
do make life slightly easier.  Once apart it is a quick job to
replace the bushings and synchros.

Expect the layshaft to be toast (that is what probably failed)
New roller bearings on the layshaft and the input shaft.  The big
ball bearing affairs rarely fail.  Fine tune the bushing thrust washer
clearances (an afternoon's work), then you slap it all back together!

Think about doing it yourself in a non-leisurely way!
