Question about trailing arms

Hi everyone,

 I spent the weekend cleaning the trailing arms on my TR4A IRS in preparation
for rebuilding/reinstalling.  Lot's of fun ... had tar(undercoating?) caked on
up to an inch thick in places, plus lots of dirt and crud.  My question is,
what have y'all done to keep these(relatively) clean afterwards?  This isn't
going to be a concours car, but I'd hate to have to do this much work again
anytime soon ...
