I sympathize with your plight.

If the item came from the UK, their color standards are VERY different from
those in the US. In the US, the basic standard is FED-STD-595 that includes
color chips and formulas (numbers representing how much of certain colors,
the hue and the tint) for thousands of colors.

In the UK, they have a different standard, British Standard something, that
does the same thing. Other countries have other standards or choose to use
someone else's. And then some manufacturers choose to have their own.

Well, a couple years ago, for my job, I had to research a certain color of
"gray". I was looking for the gray used to paint US Navy aircraft (Navy Haze
Gray). What you would think would be the equivalent in Britain is actually a
green looking color! The RAF "gray" is a bluish color. Then, the Royal
Navy's Sea Gray is a really weird greenish color. I called a couple UK
manufacturers who had both UK and US standards and they gave them a look.
They said the color I was looking for had a "red tint"! By now, I was
disgusted so I just went with the US Navy Haze Gray Color #23195 (I think it
was). This is a semi-gloss. The same shade in a gloss has a different
number, etc.
