remove/replace

Working on my 1973 TR6.  Trying to replace the differential pinion oil
seal.  The book says to "withdraw the seal" when you get to that point.
The book makes it sound as though you can easily remove the seal, not so
in my case.  The pullers I have are too large to fit in the opening
between the seal and the pinion shaft.

So any suggestions on how to remove the old seal will be greatly
appreciated.  Thanks
