I just finished installing the Crane XR700 electronic ignition conversion
for the TR4. Let me say...this has got to be the single best thing Ive ever
done to the performance of the car. The first time I started it up and
drove away it felt like I had swapped my engine with a much more reliable
newer engine. There were a few problems with the installation as pointed
out before by someone on the list. The shutter needed to have the center
hole cut to fit over the lobes and the pivot post for the points needed to
be removed. The installation took a little over an hour and the results
were unbelievable.
As for the problems I was having before with overheating and poor
performance, they may all have been attributed to a faulty ignition system.
This weekend I replaced my electric fuel pump and rebuilt my carbs and
adjusted almost everything that I could. Nothing resolved my problems until
I added the Crane.
I highly recommend the conversion for you non concourse people. And for the
price of a remanufactured one from Cranes website it is just so worth it.
