Wayne,

Like you say, "you get what you pay for!" My recommendations for a mig
welder is:
1) Don't get flux core (No gas) These are smokey, and make welds that are
very ugly (unless you are a really good welder) You most likely will not be
happy with it. These machines are really not mig (metal inert gas), they
are mig "like" machines.
2) Look at duty cycle. 16% is terrible, 10% is even worse. That basically
means you can weld for 1.6 minutes and let the machine recover for 8.4
minutes. That's a lot of waiting. It can be frustrating to have the
machine either shut off or "sputter" when you are near the end of a weld.
3) buy lots of spare tips if your just learning. and nozzle dip.

Where are you located? You can borrow my welder if your close... I'm in
central Indiana.

I'm not picking on Harbor Freight, I own quite a few of their tools :)

Bill

On the subject of Harbor Freight (thanks for the referral to them!)
could someone tell me if the MIG Welders listed below will suffice for
the "flat" sheet metal panel welding I have to do? I am sending out the
hard stuff. The units below cost either $199.00 (NO gas) to $299.00
(GAS). Get what you pay for <grin>?

regards (again!)
