Hi Ken,
Depends on what you like to do and what kind of car you want. If you want a
nice driver to have fun with. It will probably be cheaper to buy a completed
older restoration. (5k-8k) If you want a 100pt show car AND can do the work
AND like doing the work, then do it yourself. It is cheaper to buy a
finished car with a small bit of wear than to buy all the parts and do it
yourself. Personally, I like knowing what I have and I like doing the work,
so I usually get project cars and build them by hand. Maybe I am different
but potential is what gets me excited. Like finding a neglected old British
car in the back of a garage covered in 15 years of dust and junk. Maybe it's
the idea of a "time capsule" that has been unmolested.
In the end it's kinda a question of what you are in it for. Driving or
building. I would estimate building a 100pt car would be 2k to 5k more
expensive than buying a good finished car.
Hope this helps,
Mike
