Dean - He admits that he has no idea of the condition.  I would offer him no
more than a couple hundred probably starting at one.  He may have another
figure in mind, just doesn't want to say it - but you can always start low
and come up.  That is the value of the mainshaft which is the one piece of
unobtainium.    You can check it out to some degree on a workbench (I don't
have the web page describing it at hand).  If he wants much more than the
200; then come to terms for a working unit and test it together before
taking ownership.

Yesterday, I met a fellow who says he has a TR4 O/D transmission sitting in
his garage, and is interested in selling it.  He admitted the condition was
unknown, as he got it with a parts car many years ago.

What's the consensus on the value of a box w/O/D, figuring I'll probably
need to go through it and replace whatever bits normally wear out on these
things?

BTW, thanks to the various listers who helped me out during my recent
repaint adventure.  The TR4 is back on the road and running well (if a bit
on the high-reving side).
