What you have acquired is one rare car indeed. A slight correction on your
testament, but
the Vitesse Estate was not made with Triumph's blessing and certainly not with
that of
Donald Stokes either - but they made money and that was what mattered. Your car
was a
specialised conversion using Vitesse mechanicals on a modified Herald Estate
body and the
very best of all were those with the rotoflex rear ends from the GT6+/Mk2.
These cars were
made to special order only from one London dealer at Triumph's London Service
Division
under the watchful eye of its General Manager, Mr. A.G. 'Jock' Brown. AGB as he
was most
respectfully known (and for very good reason) had been Standard Triumph's Chief
Inspector
in Coventry before moving to London and he was an engineer in every way. He
also did
interesting things to Herald convertibles by turning them into fixed head
coupes with
Spitfire engines, overdrives and knock-on wire wheels. The Vitesse Coupe (I
only ever saw
one) was a stunner but at GBP 1425 was rather out of my price range.
Enjoy it. I guess it must be the only Vitesse Estate in the States
