The shims are for aligning the hole in the radiator with the bolt in the
crank pulley, enabling you to use a hand crank to start the engine if
necessary. The number of shims to be used falls into the famous "as
required" category.

Guys,
Finally got around to getting the old motor/trans mounts out and new one
back in...on this '59 TR3A I've got going in my garage...
When I pulled the old (and very hosed up...) engine mounts out, some shims
fell out with them. they were fitted between the mount and the engine
plate...two per side. I see no reference to these things anywhere in my
documentation. I just don't have any idea what these guys are, or why
they're there. Now's the time for somebody to tell me, as I can easily go
either way (put 'em back or leave 'em out) on this one.
so...before I button all this back up:
a. what are these shims?
b. whats' their function?
c. are they factory?
d. do I need to put them back in?
Again, the car's owner and I thank you in advance...and I personally
appreciate all the help I've realized from this list - great resource...
