Hi George.

Hope all is well with you.

Regarding rocker shaft wear on the TR6 motor... every motor I've taken
apart - at least six of them - there's been severe wear on the shaft. The
wear takes place over everything from under 60k miles to over 90k miles.

I have been sending the entire rocker shaft to Rocker Arm Specialists in CA
somewhere (they're on the Monster List) and for $100 (more or less), the
shaft is renewed. This is a great deal IMHO. They "turn" the shaft, "hard
chrome" it and then ream/bush the rockers after refinishing the rockers
themselves. To be honest, with the bushing the assembly is better than new.

As for additional oiling, you can put on the external oil feed - this is a
$40 option. You can also relieve the oil hole in the block and head.
Warning, the oil feed to the head comes from the rear cam bearing - if you
make the hole too big, you'll transfer the problem from not enough oil on
the rockers to not enough oil on the cam bearing. IMHO, the external feed
is a better option because the oil comes from the main oil "rail" on the
side of the engine.

I've been using the external oiling line for 5 years or so and am quite
happy with the results. I did have some oil consumption increase with this
setup, but on the next valve job I added seals to the oil stems. Oil
consumption is <1 Qt/1k miles now on the street car. The race car (same
setup) uses no oil... but it only has 30 miles on it (estimated).

Anyway, the wear is "normal" and you can alleviate the problem and make
things "better" with $100 for the shaft and $40 for an oil feed. Money well
spent.

Happy New Millenium!
