cooling fan

Recent threads about electric cooling fans led me to think about using a
viscous coupling on the mechanical fan as a good alternative to the stock
setup.  I checked through the archieves, I found Martin Sechrist raised this
question several years ago but could not find any replies to the question.
Has anyone had success with this modification?
