Jonathan,

This sounds familiar. I wrote the following to the list last
week.

With the VERY warm weather down here in the southeast, I have
been driving the TR6 around the past few days. It is running
fine and it sounds great to me except when I pass a wall on
the side of the road (or an SUV which is about the same thing)
and hear my own sound reflected back at me. There is a very
noticeable flapping noise which makes the car sound pathetic
and definitely uncool. I suspect the new rubber gaiters I
installed after replacing the hubs and half-shaft u-joints in
the fall. I won't get a chance to get under it for a couple of
days, but have any of you had these noises and were the gaiters
involved?

When I checked things out under the car this weekend, the rubber
gaiters (boots) looked fine. When I rotated the front right
wheel though, there was a clanking sound. It turns out the grease
cap had come off and was banging around under the hub cap. I don't
know why it sounded so much like a flapping sound coming from the
rear, but the sound is definitely gone now. Hope your problem is as
easy to fix as mine was.
