Hi Scott
Having had a Herald Shed, sorry Estate for many years my advice to you would
be to fit the 1300 engine as this is not limited by the Siamesed ports of
the earlier engines. Next fit the twin SU's from a 1500 Spit or Dolomite, do
not worry about re-jetting them, then enjoy an engine that will have better
torque provided by the twin carbs, and a red line somewhere near the makers
name. I was always being asked what I had under the bonnet (hood) and when I
said a 1300 most would not believe it! The other alternative would be to fit
the 2000 engine if you really want cubes. I would not recommend the 1500
engine to anyone as I know too many that gave in (main bearings) after being
revved to about 4500 rpm for continuous journeys, I seem to recall this is
where you will be at with the rear axle ratio in the Herald when cruising at
highway speeds! Also the 1300 engine is more responsive to the throttle in my
opinion.
I earned the name Valvebounce with my Herald as I wouldn't change gear till
then!
Just my tuppence!

| Hi Scott,
|
| What do you mean? My friend Dave was informed by a used car salesman that
| the Herald they had on the lot was "Fast and Powerfull" Maybe you got one
of
| the slow ones;^)
|
| OK, the only cost effective way to do this is installing a Spit 1500
engine.
| The 1147cc is only gonna make so much power even in full race trim so go
for
| the cubes....
| I did this to my car and now I can go over 80mph!!!
