Throttle shaft bushing

Hay list,
    Has anyone tried to replace the throttle shaft bushing without removing
the throttle shaft from the car?  As I understand it you can not remove the
shaft with the engine in place.  Can you slide the bushing on the shaft insitu
and seat it?
    As always your help is valued and appreciated.
