Hi Scott,

I bought a Haynes manual for the Land Cruiser the other day to research this
very point. It confirms what you say --- a spring and adjustable push rod
identical in function to that used on the TR3/TR4.

On the other hand, Dick Taylor is testing the use of a stiffer preload
spring that keeps the bearing spinning when the clutch is engaged. Still
working as of last report. The bearing appears to be robust enough to take
the constant spinning under the light load. Downside of this is a greater
load on the thrust bearing.

Nelson

| To continue the saga. . .
|
| I think it was Nelson who was inquiring about whether the Toyota Clutch
release
| bearing was designed to be in constant contact with the clutch diaphragm
| springs. (and therefore revolve in unison with the engine)
|
|
| I just talked to a tech at "The Land Cruiser Connection" here in Northern
VA,
| and he told me that it was NOT.
|
| He said that Land Cruisers have a return mechanism (spring?) that pulls
the
| bearing away from the clutch when one's foot is not on the pedal.
|
| That stinks.
|
| I was sort of hoping to put in a stiffer spring behind the slave cylinder
| piston and have a quite, self adjusting clutch once again.
|
| Oh well.
