Another story of a helpful and observant wife:
I take my 6 to the monthly evening meetings of the local TR Register. When I
arrive home the gates and garage doors are always open in readiness for my
return - Ruth can hear my approach from 2 streets away (and I'm 'taking it
easy' so as not to annoy my neighbours!). Ruth then watches me into the
garage and signals when I'm clear of the doors. Anyway, on my return a
couple of months ago, Ruth drew my attention to the fact that the 6 was
"bleeding". I switched off the engine, jumped out and discovered a trail of
bright red liquid. This proved to be coolant (I use Toyota 'ForLife'). After
investigation under the bonnet I found that the hose between water pump and
bottom of rad was partially off. Wearing thick rubber gloves I was able to
push it back on and save most of the coolant. Luckily the leak appeared to
have started just a few hundred yards down the road.
However, my favourite was when Ruth (who is a musician blessed with perfect
pitch) told me the car was squeaking. I couldn't hear anything as I suffer
from tinnitus, but Ruth was insistant, adding "it's an F sharp"!! Reason -
the handbrake was dragging.
Cheers,
Ian Viles (Derbyshire)
