Dateline June 12, 2001, Port Talbot, South Wales, UK.

A Preacher caught driving without insurance said God gave him divine
protection, a court heard yesterday. Peter David, 66, said he did not need
road tax, (UK road license: 240 USD per year, per vehicle), or an MOT,
(annual safety test: currently 50 USD each year), for the same reason.

He was stopped when police spotted his invalid number plate, (license plate),
"DEUT 818". It refers to the book of Deuteronomy, chapter eight, verse 18,
which warns that God is the only power. Peter David was fined 200 USD but he
said: "I do not expect to pay it, God's word is the only law I recognise. In
1996, God told me I didn't need insurance. He has delivered me from death
twice since then."

Peter David of Port Talbot, South Wales, has already been fined 780 USD by
the DVLA, (DMV), for failing to display a road tax disc. He wrote back
charging officials ten times as much and warning that failure to pay within
seven days would see them "smitten by a wasting disease".
