The box is a seperator tank and is part of the emissiona and evaporative
control system. The later boxes had 4 or 5 tubes out one end that went to
connections on the top of the fuel tank and one to the filler neck. Also one
led to the carbon canister in the engine bay and led along the chassisl
rail. Its purpose is to prevent fuel surges from reaching the canister.
