Having driven a customers 1990 MR2 recently I must admit that it is a
stunning drive with a nice level of comfort.
My only reservation with this model is that minor problems become mega
expensive. This particular car was a low mileage example with reported water
loss over a period of days. This proved to be a leak in the radiator pipes.
The pipes run the length of the car and cost in excess of #200/ ($300ish).
Dealer labels attached to the old ones proved that they were less than two
years old! When this fact was brought to the Toyota dealers' attention I was
told 'common fault' (read 'the pipes are poor quality'). Fitment entailed a
major strip down of the vehicle both under the car and inside the cockpit, a
very involved operation which proved expensive for my customer.
Another MR2 customer last year had oil pump failure on a 30.000 mile engine.
It cost the him #4000/$6000 to replace the wreaked engine. This is serious
money.
So if you have lots of cash or your credit card needs a beating and money
has no value to you, see it vanish faster than a rat down a drainpipe.
Buy a Toyota MR2 tomorrow.
