I do think that contemplating a TR7/8 restoration and paying others to do
the work would be the road to ruin. Here in UK, and I am sure the same in
the US, nice convertable examples can be bought for very low prices.
Proffesional restoration is expensive whichever side of the Atlantic you
are.

A recent example is the story of a  Jaguar E Type that was restored
proffessionally from literally barn find to the road in 6 weeks for a UK TV
programme.
Net cost 85000 GB Pounds that is about 135000 Dollars!!! its value at todays
prices about 20000. Go figure!

If a TR7/8 is the car that is wanted it would be best to pay as much as
possible for the best rust free (and oh yes do they rust) example available
Stateside then fettle as and when required. Retrim, respray, engine rebuild
or whatever. If the basic shell is good then everything else can be
replaced.
