Ross :

Make sure you have the "6v" version of the Lucas sports, as Crane
specifically says not to use an internally ballasted ("12v") coil with the
XR3000, as most Lucas sports coils are. (This is different than the XR700,
which does require a ballast either internal or external.)

Beyond that you should not need different plugs just because of the XR3000,
although you might if you've made other changes. 'Reading' the plugs is the
only way to be sure. Although it is a bit of a black art, you should be
able to easily see an error big enough to make much of a difference.
Basically after 1000 miles or so of the kind of driving you normally do, the
insulator should be a light tan or gray color, not caked with dark deposits
(carbon) nor extremely white and possibly blistered. The side electrode
should not show any major signs of erosion.

Widening the gap seems to help on some engines and not on others, so my
suggestion is to open it up by .005" and see if that helps. If it does,
open it up some more and try again. If not, try going back by .002". I
could never tell any difference between .025", and .030", but .032" was
slightly worse.
