It's been pointed out that when rust starts, the worst place to get it is
under undercoating. Undercoating will someday crack, chip, or otherwise
fail, & rust will start.
I'm in the camp with those who say the best thing is coach paint, just the
paint you've got on the body, & keep it maintained. Not only does it look
good, it is original, & if & when it does start to get to the point where a
respray is needed, a hit with a wire wheel & respray with auto paint is
cheap, the wheel wells are certainly a place where a color match can go
pretty wide before it's noticed.

Dang, it looks good.
The underside of the bonnet has also been painted, and though I'd prefer
not to undercoat the wheel wells, I do use this car a fair amount. Is
it possible to drive the car, and not have the wells get destroyed?
