The rest does match, engine number etc. It is also defiantly the first
paint layer. When I started to remove the hood and the rear cockpit
liner, I saw that the wheel arch covers, which are black, actually
were... New Tan but painted ! I can imagine that somebody changed the
tan for black, as I would do too.
Could well have happened. Cars were put through Sales Conversion for
umpteen different reasons - and an upholstery change was not unusual -
but body repainting was not one of these functions as it would have
necessitated a strip down back to a bare shell.. However, this was an
activity done after production and this would not cause the build
record to be changed. Equally, the sales invoice to the importer (also
checked by Gaydon before issuing a certificate) wouldn't have been
changed either as it wouldn't match the build record. Cars that
underwent a spec change - i.e. upholstery switches or wire wheels for
discs and vice versa would have had a sticker placed inside the
windscreen attesting to the spec change.
So I think the color is mallard and not emerald. Does anybody have a
picture of a car in mallard and or in emerald ?
I am lost now as mallard is blue/green and emerald green/blue.
Not - not currently, though I have recently bought a 1974 2000 built
on 29 May of that year in Mallard. It's a rich green, much like
Conifer but with a slightly bluish tinge and this paint is fully
original. My car also seems to have had a trim change from grey ambla
to black corded bri-nylon and that in itself is a mystery. I thought
Ambla on the 2000 was not being used in '74.
Not being critical but it would have been helpful if you could have
photographed your car sideways on in normal daylight rather than use a
flash just of the back end. What colour I can see reminds me of a mix
of Valencia Blue with overtones of Sapphire and a bit of green thrown
in for good measure. Not very helpful - can you try again?
