Thanks to the several folks who responded to this question. I did get the
fork off by drilling in from the opposite side, and then using a punch, so
no sawing of shaft was required. For some reason I thought I didn't have
access to the right spot to do this but once the front piece is off the
input shaft to the transmission it's no sweat.
