Is this a tach voltage sensitivity issue?

Or is it a high current draw in the brake system that is nearly crashing
the electrical system?

Turning on the fan or the headlights does not cause the tach to die.

Has anyone else expereinced this problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Is it just the tach or does the engine try to die when you press the
brakes?

If it is just the tach then I would check all the green wire connections
under the dash. There may be a poor connection at a common tie point for
the tach and the brake light switch. This may be a different tie point
than that used by other "green" loads such as the turn signals and wipers.

Another cause may be a short in the brake light circuit. Do your brake
lights actually work? If a brake light socket has a short to ground the
current draw will sap away the voltage to the tach causing it to die.

If the engine is trying to die you need a new booster.
