My experience has been quite the opposite--praise it (or especially yourself
for having the good sense to have bought
it), and it quits.

Not long after I got out of graduate school, times, regarding employment, were
a lot like they are now, pretty much was
living on a shoestring. Had bought an old VW bus for $100, without an engine,
paid another couple of hundred for a good
used 40 hp engine, installed, and the thing just ran and ran and ran. I once
put about 2700 pounds of masonry bits in
the thing to build a chimney. Just an amazing beast of burden.

Until the night I was driving home, musing how crummy life had been lately, and
then thought, "y'know, the one thing
that's gone right is this old VW bus--just reliable as--" and at that point, it
shot a spark plug out of the #2 cylinder
which put a dent in the right-hand side of the engine compartment....

Nope, I don't let on what I'm thinking about `em any more.

Cheers.
