The Lucas fuse rating system used at the time our LBCs were made is quite a
bit different than the American fuse rating system (and the system used in
Europe today). The net effect is that a generic 35 amp fuse is way, way
over-rated, and will do nothing to protect the wiring in your car. A short
can cause the wiring harness to literally catch fire, without ever blowing
the fuse !
The rule of thumb is to use 1/2 the Lucas rating if you use a non-Lucas
fuse. So, an AGC 20 fuse is a suitable substitute for a Lucas 35 (and is
what I use).
