Earlier I posted the difficulties the engine was having turning over. I
called Jk Jackson and asked him his opinion, after a lengthy discussion
he suggested I check the timing. Once I got it running and after
adjusting a few items, he wanted me to use an adjustable timing light,
running it up to about 3500 and check the reading. If correct it should
be around 36degrees. It was about 32 degrees.

A friend came over to assist; we made the adjustments and restarted the
engine, and however it seemed to run poorly. Dwight said it sounds like
it is skipping. He began pulling wires. With each removal the engine
pitch changed, until he pulled number 6, nothing happened. Pulled the
plug "wet", tested the bare plug against the ground- spark. Changed out
the plug, same thing happened. We decided to change the cap. I suggested
that I would get the manual to verify the wire layout. The previous
owner had numbered and marked each wire with a piece of tape. Yesterday
I replaced all the wires with a new set. I removed each wire one at a
time, using the old wires as a guide. Well here is the discovery of
problem. The number 5-6 wires were backwards. Switched the wires, and
VAROOOM; what a difference. After a few minutes of syncing the carbs,
adjust the idle she ran so smoothly. Dwight was very impressed with how
quick and responsive the engine was. We checked the dynamic timing
again, this time 36 degrees.

High fives were flying all over the place. And one Large Grin on this
face.

One large step closer

Ronnie
