Doug,

The two 3/8" bolts (actually dowels) as you stated are used for 
alignment of the bell housing. I have to be honest, before I switched to 
the Gunst bearing I never used them as alignment tools , just lined up 
the the trany output shaft & reinstalled the bolts. I don't know how all 
those bolts would allow any misalignment. Although , I repeat that I did 
use this method on the upgraded throw out bearing & sleeve and it does 
work perfect.
As far as "crapy clutch" action goes, I had a problem with a 
remanufactured B&B pressure plate. In my case a "new" pressure plate & 
Gunst bearing & sleeve has produced the best functioning clutch I have 
ever had on a TR6. I think the majority of bad clutch problems are poor 
action of the TOB sleeve or broken clutch fork pin.
