Ran across this in the August 16, 2004 "AUTOWEEK" magazine....

<<Bonhams Auction at Goodwood
Chichester, England
June 25

1974 Triumph Stag 2+2 roadster
Sold at $10,430

White with black interior. 3.0-liter ohc V8: automatic. Aftermarket electric
fan to address inherent cooling problems. Both a canvas top and matching
hardtop, rear child's seat. In decent driving condition and "emitting no wrong
noises," according to the seller.
The Stag is a perfect example of why the British sports car manufacturers
went the way of dinosaurs in the '70s. Their products were rushed to market
before they were ready, at the same time Japan offered the bulletproof 240Z.
It's
estimated that nearly every single Stag has been to the shop under warranty for
either an overhaul or engine replacement due to temperature and oiling
problems.
Today you see many of them fitted with aluminum Buick v8s (think Rand Rover),
a vast improvement over the original engines.
They are pleasant cars to drive, but will probably never overcome their
build-quality stigma. This was a fair price. -Keith Martin>>

Hmmmm.....240Z--bulletproof maybe, but not to rust and you can't lower the
top!
FYI only...
