Tony,

Not sure which seal conversion you are using, but the one from British Parts
Northwest (as well as the one from Racetorations, which I have the
instructions for but not the actual seal) don't require drilling any
additional holes in the main bearing cap. The only machine work that is
required with these two kits is cutting the crankshaft scrolling area to
64mm (2.520") diameter. It doesn't seem to me that there should really be a
lot of pressure at that seal (after all, the original seal was only felt,
and oil didn't shoot past that one at high pressure constantly).

Two helpful hints on the seal conversion - Don't forget to hook the seal
spring, or you'll have to take the engine out, hook the spring, and put it
all back together later like I did (since my instructions didn't say to hook
it). You also might want to cut the sides of the lower seal housing off
just inside the edge of the main bearing cap - that way, if (when) you ever
remove the rear main cap in the future, you will be able to 'rock' it back
and forth to help get it out. It's a real pain to get off if you don't do
this.

Maybe it's the way your kit was designed, but sure sounds like overkill to
me.

FWIW
