All I can remember is that it's big, and fairly unusual.  1-3/16" maybe ???

But unless you know the wheel has been moved on the shaft, and have an
earlier car without the "split" column, there is no need to remove that nut.
The steering is normally centered by adjusting the tie-rods.  And the turn
signal head is centered to the steering wheel with the 3 grub screws on the
backside of the wheel.
