This is a hall effect ignition system. The hall effect ignition systems came
out in the 70's with the introduction of electronic ignition. The Pertronix
ignition system also uses the hall effect. I believe that the photo diode
(light version ignition systems) are less prone to failing. I have not heard
about magna Spark before.
