Having done this with a 914 that sat for 10 years,  these are all good
points.

In order:

1) Gas lines - mine were all cracked from the tank forward.   1 gallon in =
1 gallon on the ground  (I had F.I. which also required significant hose
replacements.   Carbs would need to be cleaned absolutely.
2) lube the rings  (I used WD-40) but there may be better stuff available.
turn by hand if possible
3) definately change the oil
4) Hook up a good battery and keep your fingers crossed.



After all that, with my old 914, only 1 of the 4 cylinders fired and it
sounded like hell.  I thought there certainly had to be a broken rod or some
other serious issues.     Nope.  No spark 75% of the time.
