The Ramsay is very nice, have had both. PA's Chairman Select Whitehall
Lane, CS and Merlot, top-notch.

My personal favorites would be the Catena family's Alamos Malbec and other
Alamos lineup (Argentina).

My two other great finds of 2006: Las Rochas Garnacha (Spain) and Altmira's
Los Dos (Garnacha/Shiraz), also Spanish.

Best value for everyday sipping - anything from the House of Concha y Toro,
from their $100 bottles to their Frontera lineup @ $4-6/bottle.

All reds that go well with a good book on motorcars or other winter reading.

Happy sipping,

Ted

P.S. If you access to Italian wines @ a good price, try the Valtellina
Superiore Inferno from Conti Sertoli Salis
www.sertolisalis.com wonderfully robust Nebbiolo-based wines

PA currently has a 8-month aged Whitehall lane in CabSav for $15, a steal,
or the Merlot for $12, chairman select, courtesy of Jonathan Newman playing
the Wal-mart card on Whitehall Lane. He has sucessfully adopted this
approach for 3 or 4 years now, the single-best thing to every happen to PA.
-------------------------------------------------------------0
Jay Boyle, Wine Country of Illinois, Homer Glen, Ill.: 2002 Ramsay Pinot
Noir ($15) and 2001 Ramsay Cabernet Sauvignon ($15), both by Kent Rasmussen.
"Both of these wines are great bargains for the quality that Kent puts into
(them)," Boyle said. "I feel the customers are always looking for the hidden
jewels and these two wines definitely shine."

Shebnem Ince, general manager, Que Syrah Fine Wines, Chicago: 2000 Le
Croix de Beaucaillou ($45) from Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou in France's Saint
Emilion region. "The LaCroix 2000 rivaled some Ducrus I have had from
not-as-nice vintages," she said.

Mike Maracich, owner, The Twisted Vine, Orland Park, Ill.: 2002 Hahn
Estates Cabernet Sauvignon ($13) from Smith & Hook Winery. "The second label
to me is simply second to none," Maracich said of this Hahn cab, which he
said has the same flavor of "dark fruit, oak and tannin" as the
higher-priced first label.

Joe Kafka, owner, Kafka Wine Co., Chicago: 2001 Bommarito Cabernet
Sauvignon ($19) from Whitehall Lane Winery. "Although the parent winery is
never mentioned on the label, it's truly the real deal and tastes just like
its parent wine," Kafka said. "Compared to the Whitehall Lane cab, which
goes for around $40 a bottle, it's a steal."

Gregg Wilson, wine buyer, The Artisan Cellar, Chicago: 2000 Les Pagodes de
Cos ($38) from Chateau Cos d'Estournel, a second-growth winemaker in
Bordeaux's Saint-Estephe region. "In a great vintage like this you get a
really nice 'second' wine that's immediately more accessible," Wilson said.
"The regular bottling is around $100 right now, so there is significant
savings. Besides price, the nature of earlier accessibility in a second
growth like this is a big virtue."
