Tom asked "...I alway put the felt against the bearing (am I wrong?)..."

Tom, I did a little homework before refitting al the new parts in my
front suspension rebuild (TR3) using the conventional sources:

How the old parts came off the car (not necessarily correct)
Original manufacturer documentation (a much better resource)
Wisdom of the TR List (probably the best resource)

You've already heard frm the list so I thought I'd pass along the
manufacturer's info. In the Standard Motor Co. "Service Instruction
Manual", Publication #502602, Section G - Front Suspension and
Steering, p. 7, "9. To Replace Fron Hub And Stub Axle"; "(b) Seat the
grease seal on its spigot of the vertical link with the felt pad
towards the centre of the car, followed by the inner wheel bearing."

Hope this helps,

Ray
